Ode to the Queen This poem was written on Mom’s 83rd birthday by one of her daughters as a tribute from all the family. There once was a beautiful maiden so fair, With eyes of blue and smiles to share. She came from the quiet north Georgia hills, But would travel the world for many a thrill. Never her goal, but always her place, A queen she was destined to be. Her court began with siblings she loved And school friends she always made. She found fame as May Day Queen When she was but a teen. Then Queen of another court When “Fair Shot” was her claim. She’s even know far and wide As “Queen of the Parade” on 4th of July. She rides in the buggy and on the lawn chair Her jokes and laughs with many to share. The real journey to royalty had its start When still so young, she met the king of her heart. From then till today, Queen Sis has been on the throne. Encouraging and loving, we’ve never been alone. To be the best mother was always her goal. Evidenced by the crowning jewels of her foal. She crowned today to celebrate The 83 years that she’s lived to date. We, the loyal and loving subjects of her reign Do hereby declare this “Queen Mother” day. And adorn her crown with the jewels aptly earned. Precious and rare are the jewels we learned. The first of the jewels is brilliant and bright Her sense of humor that always delights! The color of laughter and the shine of a smile Have filled our hearts all the while. Next, comes the jewel of music and song, Always playing the piano or singing in the choir. She sang duets and led in the chorus, This gift she passed along to several among us. The jewel of generosity should not be small, The glitter and sparkle delight one and all. She gives all year long, and never forgets, Especially at Christmas with all of the guests. The Queen’s jewel of patience is sure and stable, The depth of granite and the shine of Georgia marble. Oh, that some of us were just slightly able To imitate some of what was always available. A jewel that we adorn with pride Is one that she has always worn inside. The color glimmers and comes to our minds. When we hear the common sense she always finds. The truest and brightest of all the jewels we adorn Is the diamond of enduring love we’ve known since We were born, The Queen has known love and given the same To all in the family that she calls by name. With joy and with pride we all celebrate this day, To honor the most beautiful in every way. And now with crown jewels, large and small, We celebrate you, the Queen of All. ~~~Gail Pinkston Brannin 2004

I am I and you are you, whatever we were to each other that we still are. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? Life means all that it ever meant, it is the same as it ever was.
